Modern aluminium production originates from the processes invented in the late 1880s. Once alumina is extracted from the ore bauxite, aluminium is produced through an electrolytic process in the smelter that is energy-intensive and primarily continuous.
An aluminium reduction cell consists primarily of a large, reinforced steel shell lined with layers of refractory insulation and barrier materials. Pot lining life generally extends 1500 to 3000 days but can be reduced if the lining fails prematurely through block cracking, lining erosion, poor operating conditions, etc. Spent pot linings must be removed and disposed.

Brief Introduction:
Sunrise Vermiculite board is a magnesium silicate-based insulation board,made from forsterite & vermiculite & Special Binders etc,providing excellent thermal conductivity and high compressive strength characteristics combined with good thermal shock resistance and wear resistance up to 1000°C.
At operating temperatures, Sunsire non-wetted structural insulation board offers an optimum balance between excellent insulating properties and high strength that improves the thermo-mechanical stability of refractory systems in mineral treatment applications. This exhibits lining tightness and resistance to metal penetration. Also it reduces thermal shock and skull buildup, increasing productivity and operating efficiency.
In order to reduce energy cost and prolong pot lifetime, Sunrise develop innovative boards with excellent resistance to cryolite penetration and molten aluminium attack.
Sunrise board composition allows for easy cutting and shaping using ordinary wood-working tools.
